History & Instructor Experience

Six Sigma Black BeltIn the mid-1980's Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) accelerated their challenge for Japan's Deming Prize and began what has evolved into today's Six-Sigma Black Belt Program. Instructors from the Japanese Union of Scientists and Engineers (JUSE) began what has come to be one of the most rigorous and intense problem solving training available. Armed with Six-Sigma Black Belt processes and tools, and the subsequent results, FPL received a JUSE Deming Prize audit in 1989 and was subsequently awarded Japan's Deming Prize, the first company outside of Japan to ever receive that honor.

All PQS, Inc. Black Belt instructors are former FPL employees, graduates of the FPL program and have more then 13 years of application and instruction experience in Six-Sigma Black Belt processes, concepts and tools.

Our instructors have taught Black Belt processes and tools, and facilitated Six-Sigma projects, internationally in Singapore, Australia, Thailand, Austria, Denmark, Netherlands, Hong Kong and mainland China, as well as the U.S.

Utilizing our practical experience in implementation of Six-Sigma we have developed some unique alternatives to assist our clients in meeting their needs for cost reduction, service improvement and satisfaction of their customers.

Special Modules & Examples for the Service Industry

Modules geared to analysis of processes in the service industry allow for identification of service process waste and defect/error reduction.

Brown Belt Certification

Some organizations, especially in some service sector organizations, do not want, or need, to certify large numbers of employees in the intense statistical methods required of the Black Belt. Especially since 90% of improvements can be made with less intense tools and techniques. In response to this customer demand, we have developed the Brown Belt Certification. Brown Belts receive training in all the improvement processes, Six-Sigma concepts, and the most frequently utilized and less intense statistical tools. In addition, a conceptual overview of the more intense Black Belt tools is provided to help them know when to seek Black Belt help.

Process Approach

Knowing tools is important, having a process to utilize them in is even more important. We emphasize the DMAIC type problem solving process and our unique Rapid Process Improvement Process. Proper use of tools, at the proper time, ensures a thorough and accurate analysis within these processes. There is a continued emphasis on achieving lasting results.

Emphasis on Implementation & People

Results are obtained through implementation, not just analysis. That's why we focus on implementation planning in our Selecting and Implementing Solutions Module and the people side of Six-Sigma through our Internal Consultant Module.
